Education is the bedrock of change

Natural Habitat aims to build public knowledge and support for land-use reform by creating direct engagement with the land.

Education is the bedrock of change; shared learning is the driving force behind Natural Habitat. Especially empowering our children and young people with knowledge and agency to build change which will impact them more than most.

Our projects encourage wider community involvement too, enabling generations and demographics to share ideas, build relationships, improve understanding, wellbeing and connection with nature.

A public platform

Our aim is that our outreach activity and the development of our work at Wakelyns will provide a public platform for:

  • Workshops with local schools, refugee organisations, food banks and other community settings to build awareness and connection to the resilience that diversity can bring to people an nature.
  • Multi-disciplinary artists and expert practitioners to engage in progressive land practice to enable the wider community to better connect to sustainable ideas and the benefits of nature.
  • Connecting vital gaps in our farming and wider communities; helping to address food waste at a time of increasing poverty.
  • Local community events, including community planting sessions, The Big Lunch, Pop-Up community feasts, creative, multidisciplinary residencies and symposiums.
  • Pathway schemes for volunteers, college students and those recovering from mental ill health, to develop skills for sustainable futures.
  • Engaging experiences that build interest in positive land-use, such as: habitat creation, foraging, zero waste food production, landscape connection events, creative workshops, and wildlife watching.

Cultivating Connections

We collaborate with experts from a wide range of fields to exchange knowledge and skills, helping people reconnect with the land and unlock its potential for both environmental regeneration and personal well-being.

Collaborations

Collaboration is at the heart of our project development, driving diverse programmes and innovative approaches. We’re currently partnering with farmers, schools, and refugee organisations, alongside experts in art, ecology, and agroecology, to offer educational sessions that engage children and refugees with the local landscape.

Our Projects

We collaborate with local farm clusters and schools, building strong relationships that foster deeper connections with the landscape.

What is Natural Habitat?

Our mission centres on sustainable land-use, championing conservation and biodiversity while fostering education through an inclusive, land-focused movement. As one of Europe’s oldest agroforestry sites, we combine organic farming with cutting-edge techniques to nurture thriving ecosystems and build resilient local food networks.
